Avoid exposing skin to UV light (sunlight or sunbeds) or self-tan for at least 2 weeks after treatment. This is to minimise darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation). Avoid heat treatments such as spas, steam rooms and saunas for 7 days. Avoid excessive scrubbing or applying pressure to the skin for 4-5 days.

Do not use any of the following products on the treated area 3 days before or 3 days after treatment: harsh exfoliating cleansers or scrubs, bleaching creams or retinoids (Retin-A). Avoid direct prolonged sun exposure 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after treatment on the treated area.

It's the root of the hair the laser targets, so the root must be present for your treatment to work best. Take a shower right before your appointment and clean the treatment area, making sure to remove dirt and oil from the skin. Avoid using any skincare products (including moisturizer) after you cleanse.

For 24 -48 hours after the treatment, please avoid excessive sweating, hot showers, shaving, waxing, and plucking the treatment area. For the next 5 days after the treatment, please liberally apply Skinstitut™ Laser Aid both morning and evening or as many times as your skin feels sensitive.

About a week before your laser hair removal, you should steer clear of skincare products containing ingredients like retinol and glycolic acid.

2. Shave the Area. As previously mentioned, shaving the area is encouraged as long as no plucking or waxing is going on. A shave 24 to 48 hours before the appointed date is important.

Shave Before Treatment

You should shave within 24 hours of your scheduled laser appointment. Your laser technician cannot treat areas that have hair above the skin. You cannot even receive treatment if there is rough stubble because this may create too much heat for the pigment of your skin.

Preparing For Your Laser Skin Tightening Treatment

If there is excessive hair in the treatment area, we recommend shaving the area prior to treatment. Avoid sun exposure to the treatment area, and do not use UV tanning beds at all for two weeks before treatment.

Keep the area moist with Cetaphil Cream, Cerave Cream, or Aquaphor Healing Ointment until the inflammation resolves and the area is healed. Keep the treated area out of the sun. If sun exposure is unavoidable, cover it or apply a broad-spectrum sunblock with SPF 30 or above for at least four weeks following treatment.

Moisturise: Keep your skin hydrated with a high-quality, fragrance-free moisturiser. This makes it easier for the shedding hair to push through the skin. Avoid hair removal methods: Resist the temptation to use tweezers, wax, or other hair removal methods on the treated area.

When should I stop plucking before laser hair removal? ›

In the six weeks leading up to your treatment, you should avoid tweezing, waxing or plucking any unwanted hairs. At least three weeks before and following treatment, you should use extra sun protection or even avoid the sun. Doing so prepares your skin for the procedure and protects it as it heals.

What not to do after laser hair removal: Avoid skincare products with active ingredients including vitamin A, vitamin C and exfoliants for 3-5 days. Area should be kept clean and dry.

You may shower after the laser treatments and the treated area may be washed gently with a mild cleanser (such as Cetaphil, Aquanil, or Dove) in lukewarm water. The skin should be patted dry and NOT rubbed.

The area of treatment should be shaved at least 12 hours prior to treatment. Wear loose-fitting clothes on the day. Avoid alcohol or smoking the night before and on the day of the treatment. Drink at least 1 litre of water the day before and the day of treatment - this helps your body to regulate its temperature.

Plucking, waxing and electrolysis can disturb the hair follicle and should be avoided at least four weeks before treatment. Avoiding blood-thinning medications. Ask your doctor about what medications, such as aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs, to avoid before the procedure.

All patients should avoid direct sunlight for 4-6 weeks after surgery. Using sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide brimmed hat are necessary. It is also important to protect your healing skin from sunlight that comes through car or office windows. Using a high quality sun screen with at least SPF 30 is recommended.
