Mr. Woodard was a Assistant with the Bertie County Rural Health Associa- tion. He was a member of NC Physi- Assistant Association, the Seaboard Association and the Na- tional Association of As- sistants. He served in the Navy dur- ing the Vietnam war. He was a member of St.

ESTHER KOONCE LAMY FALLS CHURCH, VA Esther Koonce Lamy, 95, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2002 in North- ern Virginia Community Hospital, Arlington, VA of respiratory failure. She was born June 30, 1906 in On- slow County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Mary Hardis Herritage Koonce and John Calvin Koonce; the granddaughter of Sarah Rhodes Herritage and James Sim- mons Herritage. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Methodist Church in Jacksonville and was formerly a member of Circle IV.

Esther graduated from Jackson- ville High School in 1926. Later she married Charles Joseph Lamy, US Army, and spent much of her mar- ried life traveling to her various military assignments. She and her husband retired to Onslow County where he passed away in 1953. She remained in the county and was a longtime resident of Jackson- ville until she moved to Northern Virginia in 1992 to ive with her daughter. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Lamy of Falls Church, VA.

Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at Onslow Memorial Park with the Rev. Alice Quarles officiating. The family will receive friends Fri- day night from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glenn was born in Wake County on September 15, 1915 to the late Earnest and Betsy Page Turner. Mrs. Glenn was educated in the public schools of Wake County. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Curtis Glenn to whom she was married for over 47 years.

Mrs. life was dedicated to serving God, family, friends. At an early age she joined Baptist Grove Church in Wake County. After mov- ing to Raleigh, she joined Fayette- vil le Street Baptist Church now known as First Cosmopolitan Baptist Church and later joined Tupper Me- morial Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She was affiliated with the following church auxilia- ries: Fayetteville Street Gospel Cho- rus, Choir Number Two, and the Senior Choir.

She was also an active member of the Fourth Ward Floral Club, and the Raleigh Safety Club where she performed the duties of treasurer and secretary respective- ly. Mrs. Glenn worked for NCNB in Raleigh for 21 years and later joined the staff of the North Carolina Muse- um of Art for 13 years before retiring in 1977. She was loved and admired by many. She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters: Irene T.

Wilson and Louise T. McGregory, both of Raleigh, NC; six nieces and four nephews; 10 great-nieces and nine great-nephews; six great-great-niec- es and nine great-great nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. LUCILLE ADAMS WOOD NOV. 16, 1924 FEB. 25, 2002 BENSON Lucille Adams Wood, 77, of 3194 Crossroads Road, Benson, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mattie Hudson Ad- ams died in Rex Hospital, Raleigh, on Monday, February 25, 2002 after a lengthy struggle with leukemia. She was born November 16, 1924 in Johnston County, graduated from Meadow School and worked as a cosmetology instructor at Hank Han- na Beauty College in Dunn, NC. She was a Past-president of the Ameri- can Legion Auxiliary, Benson Ban- ner Post 109, and a member of Holly Grove Advent Christian Church.

Surviving are husband, John Wes- ley Wood, whom she married on August 9, 1942; daughter, Tresa W. Wheeler and husband, Nelson P. Wheeler of Gurnee, IL; sons, John Larrice Wood and Martie Adams Wood; grandson, John Toby Wood; great-grandson, John Tyler Wood; special friends, Jean Byrd and Judy Warren; sister, Hettie Belle Wood; brother, Hobert Adams, all of Ben- son. CHEATHAM DANIEL MABRY JR. WILSON C.D. Mabry 75, a resident of 1200 Courtland Drive, died Tuesday morning at Britthaven Nursing Home. A native of Vance County, he was the son of the late Cheatham Daniel Mabry, Sr. and Sarah Felts Mabry.

He was a Veter- an of the Army serving during World II, and was awarded the Bronze Star for serving in Central Europe. Mr. Mabry attended Atlantic Christian College and was a graduate of Hen- derson Business College. He was a retired accountant with Universal Leaf Tobacco Company and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wilson for many years. He was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award by the Wilson Rotary Club, and was a past member of the Wilson Club.

preceded her in death. Her early education was in the Greensboro Public Schools. She later attended Bennett College in Greens- boro, NC. Additional education was attained at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Miami, Starks Beauty College, and did advance studies in Paris, France. Mrs.

Minor was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of Resurrection United Methodist Church. During her lifetime, Mrs. Minor served in a leadership capacity in many organizations. She was the Past Worthy Matron of the Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star an aff i iate of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina and its Jurisdiction, First Afri- can-American President of the Dur- ham District United Methodist Wom- en, President of the United Method- ist Women of the State of North Carolina; President of the North Carolina Beauticians and Cosmetol- ogist Association.
